Daily Summery
8/19- Class introduction. Make sure you and your parents sign the science safety agreement by Thursday.
8/20- Today we went over the "what is science notes". Then we went to the computer lab, got all of our new passwords, and tested socrative.
8/21- Created hypothesis and designed a procedure to test if Double Stuffed Oreo's are really double stuffed. Remember to bring a device for tomorrow to take SLO pre-assessment.
8/22- SLO pre assessment
8/25- Activity 36- storing nuclear waste
8/26- finish Activity 36- analysis questions for homework
8/27- took a quiz and class discussion over Activity 36. No homework.
8/28- Started activity 38-The Interior of the Earth. No homework.
8/29- Finished activity 38- Homework is to finish your drawings and have the layers labeled (First Period No HW).
9/1- notes over interior of the earth power point is on this website. study for quiz Friday.
9/2- Finished notes and did activity 39-Earth's Time. Analysis questions for HW.
9/3- convection lab. study for quiz
9/4- Quiz over interior of earth and heat transfer
9/8- review quiz and start Activity 40- continental puzzle
9/9- Read article over the theory of plate tectonics/Wegener. Answer questions individually and as a group. Study for quiz retake tomorrow if you want to retake it.
9/10- quiz retake, continued activity 40- continental puzzle.
9/11- Finished activity 40. Had a class discussion over the Wegener article from Wednesday. Started Activity 41- Continental Drift.
9/12- finished activity 41- continental drift. Analysis questions for HW.
9/15- Activity 42- Theory of Plate Tectonics. Reviewed Analysis questions from 41. Analysis questions for Wednesday HW. Quiz Wednesday.
9/16- Plate Tectonics GIZMO. If you're absent tomorrow Google gizmo and password and username are both hilliardscience. Quiz tomorrow over activity 42. Analysis questions due from Monday.
9/17- Finished Gizmo
9/18- Learned about sea-floor spreading. Split up into groups and researched the different kinds of evidence for sea-floor spreading and then shared with other groups.
9/19- Finished chapter 1. Looked at online simulation of plate boundaries and the land forms that are associated with each boundary. Finish analysis questions for homework if you didn't finish in class.
9/22- Notes over Continental Drift/Plate Tectonics. I created a Quizlet and the link to it is in the videos and links section. Reminder that chapter 1 test is Friday. Bring your book tomorrow to work on study guide. No HW but to study.
9/23- Worked on study guide for chapter test Friday. No HW
9/24- Activity 44. Mapped tectonic plates using volcano and earthquake data. Study for your Test. Bring a device tomorrow for kahoot review.
9/25- Kahoot test review
9/26- chapter 1 test
9/29- Guided reading notes over chapter 2 section 1. Started working on vocabulary foldable. This is homework for Thursday.
9/30- Reading comprehension practice with non-fictional text about different fault boundaries. One over Himalayan Mountains and another was over the San Andreas Fault. Finish Vocabulary foldable for Thursday.
10/1- watched videos over earthquakes
10/2 - notes over earthquakes and modeled fault boundaries with play-doh.
10/3- Gizmo over earthquakes. We looked at the difference between p and s waves and how they look on a seismograph.
10/6- Introduced "Mother Nature Always Wins" project. Worked in class on it with laptops and ipads.
10/7- We continued to work on project. Remember test retakes need to be finished by this Friday!!
10/8- We worked on project. Last day to work in class
10/9- practiced building earthquake buildings
10/10- got in groups and made to scale drawings of our buildings for when we get back from DC. No homework. Enjoy the weekend.
10/13-10/17- DC trip
10/20-10/21- worked on building earthquake buildings. No homework
10/22- finished building buildings and worked on current event that is due Friday. The articles are down under the important document section.
10/23- tested buildings
10/24 - Took assessment over earthquake project and then reviewed earthquake chapter with a game of jeopardy.
10/27- Took assessment over constructive and destructive geological processes. Electronically submitted projects.
10/28 Worked on peer reviewing projects. You need to have 4 done to get a C, 5 to get a B, and six to get an A. Due Monday November 3rd.
10/29- Started our unit over volcanoes. We learned about Hot Spots and Island Arcs. No Homework except to study for your quiz tomorrow.
10/30- Worked in class on reviewing projects and took a quiz over earthquakes.
10/31- Reviewed hot spots and island arcs and introduced viscosity. Only homework is to finish peer reviews.
11/3- used ipads to look at a computer simulation on how viscosity changes in volcanos by the amount if silica in the magma.
11/5- Notes over volcano eruptions and then started drawing a labeled picture of a volcano anatomy. No Homework.
11/6 - notes over volcano land forms and finished drawing our labeled pictures.
11/7 - watched video over Yellowstone super volcano
11/10-11/14- in computer lab working on "Rock My World Project". Presentations will be week after Thanksgiving break. If students used time efficiently they shouldn't have work to do at home for project.
11/17- Science literacy - Claim, Evidence, Reasoning practice. Need to finish your first article for tomorrow if you didn't in class today. Science TEST FRIDAY. START TO LOOK AT YOUR NOTES.
11/18- Science literacy- CER.
11/19- Science literacy- CER. Final Draft is due Monday. Study for your test Friday.
11/20 - Reviewed for chapter 3 test

11/24-25- Practiced experimental design, collecting data, and variables. Happy thanksgiving
12/1- Worked on projects to finalize them form tomorrow. Presentations start tomorrow.

12/5- Semester review for SLO post assessment on Monday
12/8 - went over answers from review packet and took SLO
12/9- Introduction to cells. Activity 42. No homework.
12/10- Letter E microscope lab. No HW
12/11- Microscope lab. Looked a variety of plant and animal cells and practiced microscope skills.
12/12- Microscope lab. Finished drawing our observations from 10 different slides.
12/15- Learned about the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Worksheet is to be finished for HW tomorrow.
12/16- We used an online simulation to learn about the functions of a variety of organelles in plant and animal cells.
